WTF?! 17:33 - Kelster The word on the web is that there's a new Tribes league in the making. After a little bit of investigating I was able to get some information from one of those involved. X-Ternal from the [EX] clan was more then happy to give me the lowdown on the World Tribal Federation:
Kelster: Welcome X-Ternal! WTF is the WTF?!
X-Ternal: WTF is the World Tribal Federation. The comedic relief of tribes. It's as simple as that.
Kelster: What's the difference between WTF and the OGL?
X-Ternal: It's not a matter of difference between the two...
but lets put it this way:
Ogl has order in it, serious clans fight for a spot on the ladder. Well, the WTF league is basicly used to have fun...without the clan mess stepping in. Imagine having 20 of the best tribes players on the same server at the same time? Nice sport huh? :)
Kelster: What is slowing down the developement of the WTF?
X-Ternal: Well some real life issues as always :P
and well, we made this for fun. We didn't think it would become this popular.
The following has been great since the beginning and feedback is positive, well, exept for some minor individuals who don't have a sense of humor.
As Excelsior has said in a WTF MessageBoard post a while ago, WTF has been fairly successful yet we are interested in doing more with WTF. The only thing holding us back is wondering if we will have the support of the tribes community. We want to know if the tribes players out there are interested in a more professional WTF. We want to further the website, but don't want to spend our hard earned dollars for nothing. We welcome all suggestions for WTF and the website.
We have some ideas for the tribes community on the WTF but we won't impose it if people don't want it. On the other hand, we want the people be active and part of it! We just don't want to put time into it and realize that no one cares. [Kelster's Note: To comment about WTF you can head here.]
Kelster: How do you guys plan to operate the WTF?
X-Ternal: I suppose there will be two big sections. The humoristic part and the league. We will try to approach the league like a big familly reunion.
Hors d'oeuvres, then the barbeQm with a little mortar on the side, shaken, not stirred. =) LOL
No, really, we'll try and make everyone feel comfortable with the other players, feel welcome and enjoy the time we'll spend on these servers fragging the night away.
What we want to do is hold a VOTE (yes YOU will vote) to nominate 4-5 or maybe more captains. All WTF members are in a poll of players, no f__king matter what clan they are apart of. So the elected team captain will be allowed to pick players in the poll and form a mixed team. Once all teams are formed, we will build a season schedule where we will play good and mabey even great matches!
Kelster: What qualifies a person to be apart of WTF?
X-Ternal: Being able to laught about themselves and others. Of course some skills are required, we won't let in complete newbies who have no idea what tribes really is about. To be part of the WTF you simply have to mention that you want to be in. Those who are unknown or not clan-affilaited may have to wait a little bit longer for a spot on the WTF roster.
Kelster: I've noticed that all of the WTF members have Flash introductions. Are these required?
X-Ternal: No, people don't require a flash intro. Flash is a good way to show what players are all about... and its just plain fun! :) Some movies have been made by me or excelsior, but so far.. all those movies that are not [EX] where done by those players. It adds a nice personal touch.
Kelster: Is there anything you'd like to say to the tribes players reading this?
X-Ternal: WTF is all about playing a fair and square, honorable ladder. I'm not trying to say that anything is wrong with others ladders though... There's nothing to gain by being first, we'll just play till our nails hurt and have fun :) The tribes community has so much potential that's untapped as of yet. This is just one step closer :)

DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA SERVER INFO 10:56 - Rifter [DMM]Serpentius just gave us an update on what their servers are running at this time. They keep pumping up their server machines, and this is what they have fo the community right now!
We have 4 Advanced player servers:
2 Renegades 2.0 (DMM1 and 2)
2 Shifter 3a (good balance) (DMM3 and 4)
And 3 Beginner player servers:
1 Renegades 1.3b (DMM5)
1 Shifter 3a (DMM6)
1 Base (DMM7

FACTOR WHAT? 21:12 - Syndicate Shortly after my post about the cuurent status of the CT mod for tribes, I recieved an E-mail from ICE, a member of the Dev team of CT. Below is a little blurb from the e-mail itself.
ICE: Ok here's the scoop. Mondo_T(our lead coder) quit, and we haven't gotten the finished codes/scripts from him yet. we are making progress though. We are thinking of renaming the mod to "Factor Alpha" to get the counter strike people off our backs... This doesn't mean it's a whole new mod. Not by far, new name, same game.
He also mentioned a contest they were having. This is how it goes. All of the top Maps, ZED art, Models, and, Skins will be included in the mod. You will recieve full credit for your work and it will be in the mod somewhere! If you are interested please direct all info and entries to ICE.

PROFESSIONAL TRIBES 19:13 - JeKill No... it's not a for-pay league thing. It's a new mod that sounds really cool. I like to see it where mod authors put a lot of effort into designing tactical situations and balance into the mod. Here's the announcement:
I have created a new Tribes Mod called Professional. This Mod is designed to promote teamplay and tactics rather than individual power. The Mod emphasises intelligence over reflexes and is designed to be exploit free, as bug-free as I can make it, and a blast to play.

GAMESPY 2.18 RELEASED 19:10 - JeKill GameSpy version 2.18 is now available to registered users. The new
version includes support for Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, one of our most
requested games. It also has beta support for BattleZone II, which we'll
get to test more thoroughly once our users can get a hold of the
multiplayer demo. :) A shareware version of 2.18 will be our shortly.

WINDOWS 2000 RC3 = RODENT KILLER 18:55 - JeKill It seems there is a significant problem with the Windows 2000 RC3 and mouse functions in TRIBES. Apparently, this latest Win2K makes the mouse buttons squirrelly in TRIBES (stuff like not firing or firing all the time, etc.) The Dev Team has been notified but as of yet no verification of this problem or a possible fix is known.

"Games Of Encouragement was such an overwhelming success last year that we
felt obligated to bring it back again!" said GameStats' Director Of
Operations Justice T. "What started off as a one time local event late in
1998 has blossomed into an annual expression of giving by the great folks
in the computer gaming community. We received over 1500 outstanding
donations by the time GOE was finished last year. This year I'd like to
double that! GOE went so well that hundreds of 'overflow' games were sent
to Ronald McDonald Houses all over the country. In addition many of the
GOE donated games were also sent home with the children when they left
RMH. To make a long story short, GameStats could not let something that
was so very positive happen only once. So many people enjoyed helping out
last year and so many kids benefited that we have decided to make GOE an
annual event!"
Please go visit the GOE site. This is a great cause to become involved with.
