About the Book
Beginning Java Objects: From Concepts to Code is an introduction to object
oriented programming (OOP), using the Java programming language to
illustrate the concepts covered. It teaches the reader how to properly
structure and approach a problem from the object oriented programming
perspective by using a case study that evolves over the course of the book.
It also serves as an introduction the the Java programming language itself,
as well as covering the basics of the Unified Modelling Language (UML) along
the way. Each chapter also finishes with a set of exercises for the reader
to test their understanding of the contents of the chapters.
About the Chapters
Chapter 10, "Modeling the Static/Data Aspect of the System", shows how to model the static aspects of the system using
UML notation, and a first version of the case study's UML diagram.
Chapter 14, "Transforming Your Model into Java Code", examines the components of the model and turns them into code,
discussing any issues that arise along the way.

About the Author
Jacquie Barker is a professional software engineer and adjunct faculty
member at both The George Washington University and Johns Hopkins
University. With over 20 years of experience as a software developer and
project manager, she has been focusing on object technology since 1991, and
has become proficient as a 'hands-on' object modeler and as a Sun
Microsystems certified Java programmer. Jacquie is currently employed as a
principal member of the technical staff at SRA International, Inc. in
Fairfax, Virginia, where she consults for both public and private sector
clients.
