Peter Young, Engineering Director for MDDR, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Peter Young is the Engineering Director for the Market Development and Developer Relations group in Sun's Software Products and Platforms business unit. He is responsible for ensuring a differentiable value to Sun products in the market place through porting, tuning and optimization techniques. His group creates visionary prototypes of technologies to demonstrate the future applications of Sun's technologies, such as Java-enabled Coca-Cola machines and a Jini enabled jacket. Mr. Young is also responsible for worldwide technology evangelism, adoption and developer technical support.
Mr. Young has 20 years of experience in the design, implementation and management of a broad spectrum of computer systems, ranging from real-time applications, to the development of a commercial version of UNIX for proprietary hardware platforms. Prior to his 14 years at Sun Microsystems, Mr. Young was the Engineering Development Manager for Perkin-Elmer Data Systems Group, and a programmer with the Australian Government's Defense Department.
In 1971, Mr. Young received a BSc (Information Science) from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
