Brian Beck, Staff Engineer, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Brian Beck is an internationalization engineer in Sun Microsystems' Java
Software division. He joined the Java team in 1996 and has worked on
all aspects of the internationalization architecture. Currently his
work is focused on complex text rendering and the internationalization
of the Swing UI tool kit. Prior to Sun, Brian worked on the
internationalization teams at Netscape and Taligent. He holds a
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo,
Canada.

JavaTM Foundation Classes (JFC) Technology Overview
|
The Java platform includes several client-side APIs that make possible the rapid
development of robust, industrial strength, globally deployed applications. These
APIs include the JavaTM Foundation Classes (JFC)
and Swing, as well as a rich set of capabilities that enable globalization of software.
The first part of this session gives a brief introduction to JFC/Swing. It also covers
their latest features and upcoming enhancements such as input validation,
the new HTML and Text components, and Accessibility support in AWT components.
A product roadmap will be provided.
The second part of this session provides a technical overview of the
internationalization support for the JavaTM
2 platform. The overview includes information on supported locales, new
features such as input method framework and complex text rendering
capability in the JavaTM 2 SDK, and a
roadmap for future internationalization support.
